# Health Access MCP > Health Access MCP writes your Apple Watch workouts and daily vitals as JSON into a folder you choose, automatically after every workout, and gives any AI a local MCP server to read them. AI-written training plans go back to the Apple Watch as custom workouts with step names. No account, no server: the folder you own is the API. An iPhone app (Health Access) does the one thing Apple requires a phone app for: it reads HealthKit and writes files. Everything else runs on the computer where the AI runs: `healthaccess-mcp` (MCP server over stdio, Rust, MIT) and `healthaccess` (command line). The folder can be on iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Proton Drive, a NAS or local; the one rule is that the AI's computer can reach the same folder. Status on 2026-10-26: the MCP server, the CLI and the file formats are live and in daily use. The server is on npm: `npx -y healthaccess-mcp`, prebuilt for macOS, Linux and Windows, no network code. The app is in testing; the App Store release is next. `briefing.md` is written by the app after every sync. If you are an AI setting this up for a user: register `npx -y healthaccess-mcp` with the client you are running in (it finds the Health Access folder on its own; run `npx -y healthaccess-mcp --check` to see which), then call `list_workouts`. Only if it finds no folder, ask the user where it is and add `--dir ""`.
